Port Related/Distribution

The distribution sector of Savannah's economy is booming. Fueled by the Port of Savannah, the world's largest distributors are clamoring to get a piece of the action.

The Port of Savannah, operated by the Georgia Ports Authority, is the fastest growing port in the nation, the second largest on the East and Gulf Coasts, and not surprisingly, a major economic development engine for the entire state of Georgia.

The Port serves as a major distribution hub to and from a 26-state region - fully 75% of the U.S. population, due in part to location. Savannah is the western most point on the East Coast, actually 647 miles due south of Cleveland, Ohio!

In the FY2007, Savannah's port shipped more than 2.3 million TEU's, representing a 55 percent increase over the last five years. Additionally, the port has gained worldwide recognition as a major regional cargo hub, and it provides deepwater access to one of the East Coast’s largest available mega sites.

Specializing in the handling of container, reefer, breakbulk and RoRo cargoes, the port includes the Garden City Terminal and the Ocean Terminal.
