Living Here

Arts & Culture

There is enough culture here to satisfy even the most jaded big-city folks. A magnet for talent, Savannah's beauty has long inspired artists and musicians, including Johnny Mercer, of Moon River fame; and writers Conrad Aiken and Flannery O'Connor.

Art Galleries, Museums and Historic Sites

With more than 60 in the area, Savannah has over 200% more art galleries per capita than New York City!

The Historic District itself is living art with architecture of our Nation's 18th and 19th century. Within it, you'll find the homes of Julliette Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts of America; Hodgson Hall, the oldest historical society in the Southeast; and the Telfair Museum of Art, designed by William Jay.

Savannah also has its fair share of forts and other historical sites representative of our nation’s early history.

Cel - e - brate good times -- come on!

In Savannah, we find a way to celebrate life every day.

We commemorate our history, heritage, ethnic diversity, homes, gardens, seasons, food, and even our boats with festivals throughout the year.

Most prominent is our St. Patrick’s Day Celebration, which draws over 600,000 people from all corners of the world.

Stage Lights, Cameras, Action and Music!

Savannah offers theaters, music, and productions from classic to modern.

The Savannah Jazz Festival, the Savannah Film Festival, and the Savannah Music Festival grow every year.

And, filmmakers are increasingly taking advantage of the cinematic - and economic - benefits of shooting on location in Savannah.

Shopping

Just as downtown is distinctive, so is its shopping. Within the Historic District you’ll find a mix of boutiques and nationally known stores filled with unique clothes, antiques, and specialty items.

Oglethorpe Mall and Savannah Mall offer more traditional retail therapy, as well as Bluffton and Hilton Head Island with their discount outlets, upscale shops, eccentric boutiques, and familiar favorites.
