During the week of Jan. 26 Ghana’s Ambassador to the U.S. His Excellency Victor Emmanuel Smith visited Savannah to strengthen trade and investment ties between Ghana and the Greater Savannah region during the Greater Savannah-Ghana Business Forum.
Hosted in partnership with World Trade Center Savannah (WTCSav), the Greater Savannah Ghana Alliance and the City of Savannah, the forum brought together more than 80 local business leaders, community stakeholders and elected officials to explore opportunities for collaboration in international trade, investment, education and cultural exchange.
Ambassador Smith delivered remarks on the evolving Ghana-U.S. relationship and outlined opportunities for beneficial partnerships with the Savannah region’s growing industry sectors.
“We are looking for people to invest in a strategic partnership with Ghanaians,” Smith said.
Additional remarks included Greater Savannah Ghana Alliance’s Dr. Joseph Silver, City of Savannah’s MarRonde Lumpkin-Lotson and WTCSav’s Antwone Mohammed.
During a roundtable luncheon, City of Savannah Mayor Van R. Johnson II formally welcomed Ambassador Smith and highlighted the city’s long-standing historical and cultural ties to Ghana.
“Savannah’s connection to Ghana is rooted in history, but it’s really about where we’re headed together,” City of Savannah Mayor Van R. Johnson II said. “This forum opened the door to real conversations, real partnerships and real opportunities. Not just for trade, but for learning from one another and growing together as a global city.”
As a part of the visit, Ambassador Smith toured Gulfstream Aerospace and the Georgia Ports Authority as well as Savannah State University.
