More than 500,000 vehicles to be built in the Savannah region each year
In May 2022, Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) announced that they would be opening Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA), a state-of-the-art U.S. smart manufacturing and battery facility in the Savannah region that would produce electric and hybrid vehicles. The $7.6 billion investment will create 8,500 new jobs and has the capacity to produce 300,000 vehicles with the ability to produce up to 500,000. Production began in October 2024 and they are currently producing the IONIQ9 and IONIQ5.
In announcing, HMG cited speed-to-market and workforce as key reasons for choosing the Savannah region.
In addition, HMGMA suppliers are locating in the Savannah region including Tier 1 suppliers Daechang Seat Savannah Corp., USA, Seoyon E-HWA and PHA in the Savannah Chatham Manufacturing Center which is 8.6 miles (13.8 km) from HMGMA. Sites are still available.
