World Trade Center Savannah (WTCSav) and National Office Systems (NOS) are pleased to announce three nominations for the World Trade Centers Association Foundation (WTCAF) 2022 Peace Through Trade Competition.

The first entry, “Next Generation Choco Industry,” was submitted by Precious Nutifafa, a current student at Savannah College of Arts and Design (SCAD) pursuing a Master of Arts in Design for Sustainability. The project explores improved sustainability opportunities in the cocoa and chocolate industry. Nutifafa developed three concepts for improved sustainability and ethical practices categorized by value chain traceability, packaging alternatives and industrial symbiosis synergy.

The second entry, “SA-VAN Together We Can,” is from SCAD student Rishita Ojha who is also pursuing a Master of Arts in Design for Sustainability. The project provides a solution to alleviate the struggles among the homeless population in Savannah. The solution includes an airstream camper designed to provide Savannah’s homeless communities with access to essential needs and services. The goal of the project is to provide to those who need help and give individuals an opportunity to better themselves in a judgement- and criticism-free environment

The third and final entry, titled “PMS: Periods Make Sense,” comes from Priyanka Kar, an alumna of SCAD with a Master of Arts (MA) in Design for Sustainability. The project aims to end the stigma around periods and normalize the feminine experience through a card game that is meant to educate individuals about periods and empower females.

“We are incredibly pleased to announce three nominations from SCAD for this year’s Peace Through Trade student competition,” said President of National Office Systems and WTCSav Board President Scott Center. “These nominations not only represent the outstanding talent we have right here in Savannah, but they also represent the global perspective of the next generation. Each project aims to provide a solution to a unique problem, and regardless of who wins, we are proud that our local students took the time and effort to submit these thoughtful entries.”

The Peace Through Trade Competition is a global student contest for the next generation of entrepreneurial leaders hosted by WTCAF. Teams are asked to present an original project, product or other innovative idea that “exemplifies and promotes social innovation and sustainability through collaboration, fair trade and ethical business practices.” The project also needs to address one of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. World Trade Centers Association Foundation is an affiliated organization with World Trade Centers Association (WTCA).
