More than 300,000 electric vehicles to be built in the Savannah region each year

The Savannah region is home to Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA).

In May 2022, Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) announced that they would be opening its first fully dedicated electric vehicle and battery manufacturing facility in the U.S. in the Savannah region. Hyundai Motor Group is investing $5.545 billion in capital investment in opening the state-of-the-art U.S. smart factory and will create 8,100 new jobs. Construction began in January 2023, with full production expected in early 2025.

In announcing, HMG cited speed-to-market and workforce as key reasons for choosing the Savannah region.

Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America is locating at the nearly 3,000 acre Bryan County Megasite which is owned by the State of Georgia and the Savannah Harbor Interstate 16 Corridor Joint Development Authority (Savannah JDA). The Savannah JDA consists of the economic development authorities of Bryan, Bulloch, Chatham and Effingham counties.

In addition, HMGMA suppliers are locating in the Savannah region including Tier 1 suppliers Seoyon E-HWA and PHA in the Savannah Chatham Manufacturing Center which is 8.6 miles (13.8 km) from HMGMA. Sites are still available.
